In the Doghouse

Note to Self:

Do not, under any circumstances, leave bags of groceries on the kitchen floor and then go out again. You will regret it.

I abandoned my freshly-purchased foodstuffs on the kitchen floor in order to amble another errand. Imagine my surprise when I came home to discover that Rita had taken advantage of my absence and ignorance of dogs’ devious ways to eat:

– An entire bunch of asparagus; and

– An entire lemon tartlet.

She certainly has interesting (and luxurious) taste in food. Makes a change from the same ol’ kibble, I guess, but dang. I have a feeling that I will be seeing the tart and aspagus again within the next 24 hours.

On the bright side:

Rita’s alleged owner Phil called last night to see how she was (after 6 weeks). No mention was made of his taking her back, so maybe she’s all mine! Grocery-stealing and all!

I’m guessing that you’ll notice the asparagus in progress long before you see the end result.

Why don’t you just ask Phil if you can adopt Rita?

    LOL at Karan.

And that’s a good question: can you ask if you can just adopt lovely Rita?

Feel lucky that it was asparagus and lemon tart instead of kitty litter! Puppy-sitting isn’t easy.

You just gotta love that dog.

Ah, Suzy, big new-dog-owner newbie mistake. Dogs willl eat ANYTHING. In fact, when you think they’re “sleeping” they’re really trying to figure out how to open the fridge.

Amazingly, nothing untoward happened from Rita’s furtive gourmet feast. Fortunately, she hasn’t figured out how to open the refrigerator (yet).

I’m sort of afraid to ask Phil to keep her in case he says no. Also, if his life changes and he needs her back, I’ll have to do it. After all, he had her for 10 years before I showed up. I’m still hoping for the best and hiding the groceries for now!

If he says no, you can move and leave no forwarding address for Rita.
