The Conversation

Published by at 12:11 pm under Uncategorized

I’ve been psyching myself up for weeks to talk to my boss about moving.

For the past couple of weekends, he’s been saying he’ll drop by – I had some articles for him about Goldman Sachs and the Madoff scandal, but he hasn’t shown up, or called. If I were dating him, I’d be devastated, but as it is, I know he just got busy doing other things. And after all, he does have a wife and children.

Finally, he stopped by a couple of days ago. We talked about a few work issues, and I was about to broach the subject when my phone rang. It was our tech/finance person with my paycheck (for some reason, she refuses to mail it, so I end up waiting around for her, or she shows up unexpectedly, like this). I went out to her car to get it, and when I came back in the house, Boss was on his cell phone, talking with a client. He covered the phone and told me he’d see me later. Waving from the car, he took off, and I just stood there for a minute. It all happened so fast.

I guess I’m going to have to talk to him on the phone instead of in person. It doesn’t seem right, but time is running out. I’m really nervous about it, even though I don’t really think he’ll say no or get mad at me or fire me or anything. Still.

Definitely nerve-wracking and I’m sure it’ll be fine since I imagine he’ll understand the desire to get out of Oakland and be surrounded by family. Besides, he knows that you’re good and reliable at your job, so as long as he is getting what he needs why should he even be concerned?!

Amber is right, what your boss should be concerned with is your health and doing your job well, I’m sure even he had to make adjustments sometime in his life to make it better for himself. If he’s a good manager, he will only be concerned about you getting the job done.

Interested to hear what develops. In this day and age, it should work out. Bonne chance!

THM – glad to see you back! Yay!

I talked to my boss today and he was really supportive. What a relief! Now if I can just get used to the depths of the country thing…

even if you don’t get used to the depths of country living… it all happens for a reason right? And that reason will eventually let itself be known… who knows, you may be back in San Fran before you know it!

So glad to hear he was supportive!

If nothing else, I should be able to pay off some debts and get in better financial shape. Maybe I can save up enough to move back to SF! Or maybe I’ll become a country bumpkin. 🙂 Stay tuned!

Were you really worried about talking to the boss? I can’t imagine being nervous talking to your boss about such things. He’s so easy going. I just love him.

Me, too. I’m such a worrier, though.
