Grinchy

Published by at 9:22 am under Uncategorized

The Grinchitude continues apace Chez Suzy: I haven’t sent a single Christmas card, I don’t have a tree or decorations, I haven’t sung a carol or bought presents or even done my traditional annual reading of John Masefield’s masterpiece, a Christmas story called “The Box of Delights” (my father used to read it to us every Christmas when we were kids, and this is the first Christmas ever that I haven’t read it).

But I do have a Festive Fire Escape (doesn’t that sound like an Edward Gorey book?).

I have a lot of grinchitude this year, too. Glad you didn’t send cards out, because you’re not getting one from me this year! I don’t want to point fingers or anything, but *someone* didn’t bother responding to a simple email sent asking for your new address.

I’ve skipped the decorations and the cards and just about all of it this year. Interestingly, I was the only person I encountered at the mall yesterday who didn’t seem utterly miserable.

‘course … I was there buying gifts for myself. Ahem.

I know, I know – I’ve been naughty this year. If I were going to leave my stocking out, I know I’d get a lump of coal (or worse)!

There’s something to be said for skipping all the fuss every now and then. My mom is doing it this year and I think it’s a dream come true for her. =)

It is a very festive fire escape!

I’ve skipped a few Christmases over the years myself. It’s a different experience! I do love Christmas, most years, but every so often I’m just not in the mood and there’s no tree, no cards, nothing. I’m bummed this year just because I don’t get to spend it with my family and I had my heart set on the traditional Christmas! If it wasn’t for Steve being Christmassy enough for the two of us, I doubt I would have put up a tree or sent cards either.

The extent of my Christmas spirit is a jingle bell wreath on the front door. I have too much knitting and rosary-making to do to waste time on decorating when nobody would see it but me and the cats – and neither of them nor I care! 😉

Let’s plan on you visiting me soon!!! 😉

    Merry Christmas, dear Suzy!
