Love SHAC

Published by at 10:51 am under Uncategorized

I took a break from the drudgery of work today and slipped out to Stacey’s bookstore, where I picked up the following:

So there I was with my bag of goodies, on my way back to dreary work, when I noticed a demonstration outside the very ugly E*Trade building. I went over to see what it was all about, and learned something more horrifying than anything that ever entered the imaginations of Mssrs. King and Snicket. Worst of all, this was real.

E*Trade is partially financed by the monsters and criminals at Huntingdon Life Sciences, a laboratory which cruelly abuses animals on a daily basis. 500 of them die every single day at Huntingdon’s facilities, located in England and in New Jersey. They have been repeatedly caught violating the Good Laboratory Practice laws, but refuse to stop the needless pain and horrendous suffering, even after being exposed by TV reporters beating beagle puppies and dissecting a live monkey.

So if you invest with E*Trade, you are supporting this. Many brokerage firms, including international giants Charles Schwab and Paragon, refuse to trade in Huntingdon’s stock because they are so appalled by their business practices. I took a handful of fliers and gave them to everyone I work with, since many of them invest with E*Trade. I posted the flyer in our lunch room and mailed one to my vegetarian niece in England. I faxed the CEO at E*Trade:

Christos Cotsakos
Chief Executive Officer
Telephone: (650) 331-6000
Fax: (650) 331-6804

Please take a few minutes to do the same. For more information, please visit the official Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty site.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

You have to really wonder how people can work in a place like that – how can you look those animals in the face on a daily basis and not hate yourself for what you are doing? I tried to read the material on the site but it just sickened me too much. =( Thanks for enlightening me though.

I had no idea either. How can they continue to do business (if you can call it that)? God, those poor little creatures.

That is awful. And I ask the same question — how can people do their jobs when they know it means treating another creature such a horrible way? And how they just slip by, legally, in this country and abroad is beyond me.

On a lighter note, you know that you can’t ever mention Chicago without me piping in, don’t you? My hometown! An awesome city, although it will be so cold in January that your eyes will tear up and freeze on your face. I envy you so much though, even if you do have to go on business. Try to have fun eating on Michigan Avenue, browsing Marshall Field’s in Water Tower, maybe stop in and say hi to Oprah at Lake Point.

OMG. I had NO idea!! We use E-Trade…. *shudder*

I will let Shawn know about this right away. He has been pretty attentive and vocal in the SHAC efforts.

I will definitely write a letter!

SHAC is not a paragon of virtue either. Have any of you ever heard of all the activists who on a regular basis extoll the use of violence to forward their message. I think that anyone who thinks that animals deserve a bit of fairness deserves to be heard, but I think that when it tips over into being a group of vigilantes throwing bricks and burning buildings, i get really pissed off. This is because if one constitutes violence against another, he/she only stoops to the level of the one who they are fighting. SHAC and ALF are both listed as domestic terror threats for a reason.

I simply think that orginasations like this give animal welfare a bad name. The only orginisation of this type I support is ASPCA, and thats because they actually care about the animals before going out and threatening people (which they dont do)

In my opinion, the writer of this article should get his/her facts strait before singing the cruelty song and basicly taking it up the ass from every wrong headed Rodney Cornando and Ingrid Newkirk out there who go out and extoll the whole “my way or the highway” style of force fed opinions

Not to say that i dont like animals though, I simply think that violence isnt right.

P.S. If you want to hate mail me, please note that i am jaded and cynical and I dont take hatemailers lightly, in other words: bring it on! I dare you!

I have no interest in sending you, or anyone else, hatemail. You give yourself way too much credit. Not only is it odd and sad that you’re commenting on a post that’s three years old, but you really need to learn how to spell, dude.
